As the temperature in the Netherlands drops, the Dutch start dreaming of the possibility of being able to skate on Amsterdam’s canals. Even if the canals aren’t frozen this year, there are plenty of places to practice your skating skills at Amsterdam Winter Festival Amsterdam.

About Ice Skating in Amsterdam

While ice skating on Amsterdam’s frozen canals is a magical winter experience, unfortunately it doesn’t happen every year. The temperature must stay below 0 degrees for 4 consecutive days for the ice to thicken enough for skating. When the conditions look good, boats are closed from certain channels. Fingers crossed that happens this year.

However, every winter visit to Amsterdam includes a visit to a skating rink. The experience is unique and you have a choice of different ice rinks. Below you will find the best spots for ice skating in Amsterdam during the Winter Festival.

Ice skating on Museumplein

Are you ready to experience winter in one of the best locations in the center of Amsterdam? Ice*Amsterdam is located on the Museumplein right in front of the famous Rijksmuseum. If you are not into ice skating, you must go for some drinks or food. There is also a Christmas market on the Museumplein from 14 December to 26 December.
